With falling demand, problems with financing and plummeting iron ore prices, Chinese export HRC steel prices finished the month at a 4-year low level of $501 a ton, said The Steel Index.
 Data from China customs showed that the country’s steel exports increased by almost one million tonnes m-o-m to 8.06 million tons. Chinese steel exports to Asia grew +13% m-o-m to 5.42 million tons. The downward trend in Chinese steel prices is expected to continue in September, according to a market report from CISA. A slowing economy, problems in the real estate end-user markets and steel producers’ tight cash-flows are all likely to suppress steel prices. |
